Today I show what I have done with the self designed fabrics. And I have to admit, I did a second run dripping/painting/fussing around with paint – I wanted a white jersey as well..
The hat.
You need a generous scrap of jersey.
A serger.
A less than half an hour.
My head circumference measures 56 cm, but as you see my hat suits the bigger kid very well. I think for everyone under, lets say 7 years, you should size down the measurements. A well fitting hat is great to consult…
Fold your big scrap lengthwise and eyeball the shape shown above on the fabric and cut it. Pay attention ONE LENGTH HAS TO BE ON THE FOLD!
Now comes the funny part: flatlockseam with serger!
Pretty easy, if you pay attention to 3 things – these are crucial!
1. ONLY THE LEFT NEEDLE WORKS – TENSION = 0
(Eager ones remove the right needle, me not, because I think the seam covers possible holes..)
2. UPPER LOOPER TENSION TOTALLY INCREASED!!!
(in my case = 8)
3. KEEP 1 mm DISTANCE TO THE KNIFE!!!
(The knife DOES NOT cut -> the cutted edge must be supercrisp – great job for circle blade knifes)
In any case TRY FIRST ON SCRAP!!!
Each serger works different, what goes for mine, may need adjustments at yours. But generally the rules are iron: only left needle works, with zero tension, upper looper superincreased tension. lower looper usually does not need adjusting, but this can vary.
OK.
Well, if everything works, then go ahead with the hat – WRONG side/wrong side!!!
All the way round like shown on the image.
At the detail image you can see the space between fabric edge and seam width – Perfect!
And now: PULL APART all the way down the seam!!!
The cutted fabric edges are facing. Iron the whole seam…
Then you put one half of the hat INTO the other – this requires a bit twiddling…
FERTIG!!!!
Once you manage this step, give the hat a last nice ironing and pull the little serger tails with help of a big eye needle INTO the hat. READY!!!

Ich komme mit den Maßen nicht zurecht. Bei KU 55 oder 56 sollten 45-50 cm Stoffbreite reichen. Du hast das Doppelte angegeben.

Yeah, yeah, yeah!
